Iran hailed as Belarus’ long-standing partner

Iran hailed as Belarus’ long-standing partner

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Cooperation with Iran has traditionally been high on Belarus’ foreign policy agenda, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Valery Mitskevich said as he met with chairman of the Iran-Belarus parliamentary friendship group Abolfazl Amouei in Minsk on 13 July, BelTA has learned.

“Cooperation with Iran has traditionally been part and parcel of Belarus’ multi-vector policy. The Belarusian president pointed out that the world is not confined to the United States or the European Union. In relations with other countries, Belarus never resorts to unfair methods, sanctions, or restrictions. Belarus is a reliable and predictable partner, whether in the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, or any other international organization,” Valery Mitskevich said.

According to him, Belarusian MPs have always valued friendly ties with Iran. “Meetings and a dialogue between MPs of the two countries help maintain mutual trust and discuss mutual interests. Friendship groups have been set up at both the parliaments, which is, I believe, the most direct and useful way of interaction between the parliaments. We are happy to welcome you in our country,” Valery Mitskevich stressed.

Iran and Belarus have a long history of friendly relations and cooperation, Aboulfazl Amui noted. “Today, in view of some countries’ attempts to interfere in Belarus’ domestic affairs, we should step up cooperation even more. We believe that we should outline new avenues of cooperation. Belarus and Iran actively interact in the field of politics and in the international arena, but we should also step up trade and economic cooperation,” he pointed out.
