Instructions given to improve central testing, admittance to Belarusian universities

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – It is necessary to improve the system used to admit students to Belarusian universities. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko set the task as he received a report from Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov on 18 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state was informed how the university admittance campaign went this year. According to the Education Minister, the targeted number of students has been enrolled, particularly for state-funded education and for the professions that the national economy needs.

The President said it is necessary to further improve the admittance system, particularly in universities, as well as the central testing system. The head of state was informed about what the Education Ministry has in store and the admittance campaign changes that will be introduced next year. In particular, the Ministry will decide on organizing the central testing in four disciplines and on allowing school leavers to apply for admittance to several universities in the same line of work at once. Apart from that, some technical changes concerning the organization of centralized testing are being considered. Mikhail Zhuravkov noted that these matters will be taken care of and the results will be provided to future prospective university students.

The meeting also touched upon the matter of vocational training and ways to increase the number of students in vocational schools and colleges. The Minister stressed that they pay close attention to the matter. The development of continuous professional education and the optimization of the education system were discussed as well.
