Indian Embassy in Minsk marks Republic Day

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) - The Indian Embassy in Belarus held an event for the Indian diaspora to mark the Republic Day on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

The Constitution of India was officially adopted on this day. The Constitution is the supreme law of the state, it enshrines the rights and responsibilities of Indian citizens and reflects the basic principles that unite the vast and diverse nation. Due to the difficult epidemiological situation this year, the Republic Day celebrations weres limited to a small event for representatives of the Indian diaspora in Belarus. Guests took part in the flag hoisting ceremony, the embassy said.

India's Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur touched on the history of the independent state: We rallied as a single nation uniting our efforts to overcome the devastating crisis.

She drew particular attention to India's fight against the pandemic not only within the state: During the pandemic, we delivered medicines to 150 countries. In 2021, India plans to send 10 million vaccine doses to other countries.

The ambassador also touched on the economic situation in India against the backdrop of the pandemic: “Thanks to careful planning and thoughtful reforms, the economy got a boost. Economic activity has recovered to 93% of the pre-pandemic levels.” The ambassador also took note of the record highs of India’s stock market this month and significant growth in investment.
