MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – India will consider the possibility of offering electronic visas to Belarusians. The need for further simplification of conditions for mutual trips between citizens of the two countries was discussed at a meeting between Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas and his Indian counterpart Ruchi Ghanashyam in New Delhi, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ministerial consultations are a traditional instrument of cooperation between Belarus and India to consider important bilateral and international matters. The previous round of consultations took place in Minsk in November 2016.

The parties discussed the state of bilateral political and inter-parliamentary dialogue, economic and investment cooperation, interregional collaboration, scientific, technical, educational and cultural ties, development of the legal framework of relations, cooperation in international organizations and other issues on the international agenda.

The parties also considered the program and practical content of mutual high-level visits for the near future. Andrei Dapkiunas and Ruchi Ghanashyam discussed the possible shift of ministerial consultations between Belarus and India from a biennial to an annual basis. The parties talked over the possibility of setting up a Belarusian-Indian inter-parliamentary friendship group to boost inter-parliamentary contacts. The Belarusian part of the future group has already been formed at the National Assembly of Belarus.

Belarus and India agreed to continue the dialogue and decided on next practical steps to develop the concept of the Belarusian-Indian industrial and investment cluster in the Bremino-Orsha economic zone. The decision to establish a working group for a detailed discussion of this topic was taken by the Belarusian-Indian intergovernmental commission on cooperation in economy, trade, industry, science, technology and culture in September 2018.

India reaffirmed support for Belarus' accession to the World Trade Organization. The parties also considered opportunities for the development of cooperation between Belarus and India in the framework of multilateral organizations, including the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Non-Aligned Movement.
