MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarus has received the final report from the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR 3) mission, which worked in the country on 24 February – 4 March, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

The report contains proposals and recommendations on further improvement of the national nuclear infrastructure and mentions good practices, which will be added to the knowledge base of the world nuclear community for other countries to use in the course of implementation of nuclear energy programs.

Belarus notified the International Atomic Energy Agency that the country is ready to release the report to public. The relevant note was sent to the IAEA secretariat on 12 August 2020. Public access to results of the IAEA’s objective evaluation of development of the national nuclear infrastructure is another confirmation of the openness and transparency of the Belarusian side in the course of implementation of the national nuclear energy program, the press service said.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is the general contractor. The loading of nuclear fuel into the first reactor began on 7 August.
