HR for industry, agribusiness, IT. Belarus, Uzbekistan expand cooperation in education

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan’s Surxondaryo Oblast are stepping up cooperation in education. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets, Head of Surxondaryo Oblast Ulugbek Qosimov, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Nuriddin Mamajonov, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Education Ministry.

The negotiations focused on the integration of education with the real sector of the economy and the training of much-needed specialists for manufacturing sector, the agribusiness sector, and IT. “The parties agreed to accelerate the signing of agreements between higher education institutions and colleges of the two countries. Emphasis was placed on practical training of students. The successful experience of Euphrosyne Polotskaya State University of Polotsk and OAO Naftan where students master professional skills directly on the shop floor starting from their first year has been marked for replicating,” the ministry noted.

Apart from that, an agreement was reached to organize internships for Uzbek scientists in Belarus. Priority areas for joint research include biotechnology, plant propagation and adaptation, and the development of functional materials (sorbents, hydrogels) for the rational use of water resources and soil reclamation.

The sides also discussed the possibility of opening branches of Belarusian pedagogical universities in Uzbekistan. The move is expected to help improve the quality of training of local teaching staff.

As a result of the meeting the Surxondaryo Oblast delegation confirmed it would participate in a forum of rectors of higher education institutions, which will take place in Minsk in spring 2027.
