House of Representatives votes for Belarus’ accession to Patent Law Treaty

MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) - Members of the House of Representatives voted for the accession of Belarus to the Patent Law Treaty on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology Andrei Kosovsky said that the Patent Law Treaty, adopted at Geneva in 2000, operates under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization and defines the internationally agreed basic standards for the protection of intellectual property rights. The accession to the Patent Law Treaty simplifies the formal procedures in respect of national and regional patents for invention and application for patents for inventions.

The MPs also ratified the Treaty on Coordination of Action for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights. This document regulates interaction between the authorized bodies of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and with the Eurasian Economic Commission in order to form a unified system for the protection of intellectual property rights on the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.
