Heads of Eurasian Economic Commission, Roscosmos discuss interstate space program

MOSCOW, 25 February (BelTA) – Cooperation in the sphere of high-tech manufacturing and space industry within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union was discussed as Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin on 25 February, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich said: “There is one integration program in the Eurasian Economic Union for now. It focuses on outer space. It envisages production and provision of space and geoinformation products and services on the basis of national sources of remote Earth sensing data. We have high hopes for the program.” In turn, Dmitry Rogozin stressed that cooperation in space industry is of special importance for countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. “We are convinced that our huge Eurasian space can be connected only through space industry,” he said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich and Dmitry Rogozin discussed the implementation of the interstate program, including financing tools, conceptual and informational support, and the creation of an organization body. An agreement was reached on stepping up efforts in a number of areas in order to start the program’s practical implementation as soon as possible.

The sides confirmed that results of the space efforts exercised as part of the program will be actively used by Eurasian Economic Union member states as tools to expedite social and economic development as well as innovative development for the sake of making the transition to an economy based on modern scientific knowledge and cutting digital technologies. During the meeting close attention was paid to promising projects. The sides talked about the creation and use of connected national systems for the remote sensing of Earth from outer space, the creation and use of space communications systems, the application of GLONASS-enabled navigation technologies and geoanalytics. These areas of work may be in demand in such important spheres as transport and logistics links and the development of infrastructure in the Eurasian Economic Union, goods traceability and efforts to enable smooth merchandise transportation in the union.
