Grodno Oblast, Volyn Oblast to sign cooperation agreement

GRODNO, 2 October (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast has plans to sign a cooperation agreement with Volyn Oblast at the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine that will take place in Zhitomir on 3-4 October, BelTA learned from the economy committee of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

The agreement between the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee and the administration of Volyn Oblast provides for cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology and culture. The document will help promote mutually beneficial contacts at various levels, strengthen inter-regional ties, and facilitate the exchange of visits.

During the forum, Grodno Oblast will showcase its economic and trade potential. The Grodno Oblast delegation includes representatives of the biggest meat and dairy producers, agricultural machinery manufacturers, as well as the administration of the Grodnoinvest free economic zone. The delegation of Grodno Oblast will take part in the 8th meeting of the Belarus-Ukraine Advisory Council for Business Cooperation.

Ukraine is one of the main trading partners of Grodno Oblast. It accounts for about 10% of the region’s trade and about 9% of export. Economic cooperation is getting increasingly vibrant. In 2018, the trade in goods between Grodno Oblast and Ukraine amounted to $316 million (up 53% over 2017). In January-July 2019, the trade exceeded $220 million (up more than 20% compared with the same period last year). The export to Ukraine is dominated by mineral fertilizers, medium density fibreboards and chipboards, hosiery, paper and cardboard, fiberglass and a wide range of meat and dairy products.
