Good prospects for stronger Belarus-Poland economic cooperation

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs sees good prospects for stronger economic cooperation with Belarus, BelTA learned from Konrad Pawlik, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, during the seminar held for Polish investors on 13 May to highlight investment opportunities in Belarus considering existing international instruments.

Konrad Pawlik said: “Despite the current complicated situation relating to crisis phenomena in the economic sphere there are good prospects for stronger cooperation not only because Belarus is part of the Eurasian integration project. First of all, we are neighbors, we have a common historical and cultural legacy. It is not strange that Polish business seeks opportunities for implementing projects primarily together with the closest eastern neighbor in addition to the European Union.” He remarked that there are many examples of successful Polish investments in various sectors of the Belarusian economy. For instance, Polish companies already work in the food industry, financial sector, furniture industry, production of construction materials, rubber and plastic goods and other things.

Speaking about the successful experience of Polish companies on the Belarusian market, the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland mentioned that the existing potential had not been exhausted yet. “The next Polish investments may come soon. But they will need stable economic and legal conditions, transparent rules of the game based on international standards, and the well-intentioned attitude of the government to foreign investors,” he added.

Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland Konrad Pawlik is in Belarus on a visit on 13-14 May. On 14 May the official is expected to go to Gomel where a specialized Polish-Belarusian business forum for representatives of the woodworking industry and the furniture industry will take place. The event is supposed to become another step towards larger presence of the Polish private sector in Belarus.
