MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) - Belarus is looking to host the president of Ghana, Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich said on the air of the First Information TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We are now expecting the visit of the president of Ghana to our country. Accordingly, we are preparing a large package of documents and projects similar to the Zimbabwean ones [referring to Belarus’ experience of cooperation with Zimbabwe], Sergei Lukashevich said.

Previously, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov told journalists that the visit of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama to Belarus is planned for June of this year.

The head of the Belarusian foreign ministry has made a number of visits to African countries this year, including Ghana. It was reported that an order had been placed for the production of approximately 3,000 units of agricultural machinery in Belarus, and that specific agreements had been reached to increase supplies of powdered milk and meat. “We expect that supplies will increase many times over after the visit,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said in March of this year.

There are also plans to expand cooperation in the field of education. Around 80 students from Ghana are currently studying in Belarus, and there is interest in increasing their numbers several times over, particularly in medical and agricultural specialties.
