Gabi Magnezi accredited as Belarus’ Honorary Consul to Israel

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – An official accreditation ceremony for Gabi Magnezi as new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus with jurisdiction for the central district of Israel took place at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 29 November, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Israel.

Attending the ceremony was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Vladimir Skvortsov, Deputy Director-General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zvi Rav-ner and Director of the First European Department of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yacov Livne.

Participating in the event as honorary guests were also Sofa Landver, Minister of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, Co-Chairperson of the Belarusian-Israeli Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and head of the All-Israeli Association of Immigrants from Belarus Mikhail Alshansky.

Vladimir Skvortsov expressed hope that the new free-lance consular member representing Belarus in Israel will contribute to the expansion of the institute of Belarusian honorary consuls in the country of stay and further step up bilateral relations, which have been showing good dynamics in the recent years. In his words, the countries have developed new efficient mechanisms of cooperation, including the Israel-Belarus Chamber of Commerce which was set up by Israeli businessman Gabi Magnezi with the support of the embassy in 2014.

It was noted during the meeting that Jews from Belarus played an important role in the development of the State of Israel. Today’s constructive cooperation between Belarus and Israel was emphasized as well.

Honorary Consul Gabi Magnezi thanked Belarus for the extended honor and added that he will do his best to fulfill his new responsibilities in full.

At the end of the ceremony Gabi Magnezi received a consular patent and the exequatur.
