MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) has discussed the fulfillment of the national action plan compiled in the wake of stress tests of the Belarusian nuclear power plant with a delegation of the European Commission and the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG), BelTA has learned.

Gosatomnadzor informed the European partners about the principles used to include measures into the national action plan and determine the timeframe for their implementation. The current state and progress in fulfilling the measures were also reviewed.

The delegation of the European Commission and ENSREG demonstrated a positive attitude to the concrete results achieved by the measures within such a short period of time.

In turn, ENSREG representatives talked about results of the preliminary evaluation of the Belarusian national action plan and about the practice of taking action in the wake of stress tests in countries of the European Union, Armenia, Switzerland, and Ukraine.

Gosatomnadzor assured the European delegation that information about progress in fulfilling the national action plan will continue to be released in a transparent and regular manner.

A national action plan in the wake of stress tests of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was worked out in 2019 and published on the Gosatomnadzor website. Information about progress in fulfilling it is regularly updated and made available to the general public. Out of the 23 measures the document stipulates three ones have been fulfilled, one is being fulfilled, and two are being discussed and decided on. Another measure is being implemented as part of the process to license the operation of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Two measures of administrative nature are related to planning and regular reports, which will be prepared until the national action plan is fully executed.
