“The relevant agreement was reached during the 13th meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Armenian commission on trade and economic cooperation. The new forest will be planted in Armenia. Specialists of the two countries are expected to decide on the site during a visit of the Belarusian delegation to Armenia in late October,” the press service said.

“Belarus is ready to provide its planting stock free of charge and provide any necessary technological assistance,” stressed Belarus’ Forestry Minister Mikhail Amelyanovich.

Armenia’s Agriculture Minister Ignatiy Arakelyan noted for his part that Armenia is interested in Belarus’ technological capacities. “If for Belarus forestry is of economic importance, for us it is of environmental significance. It is the issue of preserving forests. We would also like to launch projects on the production of pellets and other materials to provide heat to our villages,” he said.

The 13th meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Armenian commission on trade and economic cooperation was held in Minsk on 20 October. The next meeting will take place in Armenia in 2018.
