Foreign ministers of Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania discuss Ukrainian conflict

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – During his working trip to Ukraine Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in a trilateral meeting with his Lithuanian and Ukrainian counterparts Linas Linkevicius and Pavlo Klimkin in Odessa on 14 August, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The ministers discussed the regional situation connected to the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine and backed prompt elaboration of concrete acceptable agreements within the trilateral contact group,” the ministry said.

The parties considered prospects of redesigning the Eastern Partnership initiative. Vladimir Makei emphasized the appropriateness to diversify EU approaches to the Eastern Partnership member states depending on the priorities of their foreign policies. He also stressed the importance of integration processes in the European space and the start of the dialogue between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union in the future.

The ministers also talked over possible efforts to step up trilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic and transport areas, develop trilateral regional projects in various sectors.
