Foreign ministers of Belarus, Azerbaijan discuss contacts amid pandemic

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei had a telephone conversation with Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 13 May. The foreign ministers emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan despite the coronavirus pandemic, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministers discussed bilateral cooperation and welcomed the high level of a political dialogue. “The parties emphasized the importance of preserving and expanding trade and economic contacts in the face of the pandemic. They also touched upon joint projects in transport and logistics and in the energy sector,” the press service informed.

The foreign ministers also exchanged views on the global developments. They discussed measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 infection and underlined the importance of international cooperation and solidarity.

Vladimir Makei and his Azerbaijani counterpart also talked about cooperation and concerted effort in international organizations, including the United Nations and the CIS, and relations with the European Union, including as part of the Eastern Partnership initiative. In addition to that, the ministers reviewed the schedule of bilateral contacts at various levels. “An agreement was reached to resume contacts after the restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic will be removed,” the press service noted.
