FM calls withdrawal of Russian ambassador from Belarus internal affair of Russian friends

BRUSSELS, 14 May (BelTA) – The decision to recall Mikhail Babich from the post of Russian Ambassador to Belarus is the internal affair of our Russian friends, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media on the sidelines of the High-Level Conference on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the EU initiative Eastern Partnership, BelTA has learned.

“This is an internal decision of our Russian friends. We have no complaints as to the work of the Russian ambassador in substance. Maybe in form some of his actions were not always diplomatic. It was comfortable for us to work with the Russian ambassador,” Vladimir Makei noted.

He stressed that Belarus is ready to cooperate with any ambassador and representative of Russia to develop close and friendly relations with this country.

“In all of our presentations and conversations in Brussels we highlighted the need to try to develop ties between the Eurasian economic processes and European integration processes. This shows our intent to not only maintain but also strengthen closest comprehensive relations and cooperation with our eastern ally,” the minister said.
