FM: Belarus seeks quality relations with Ukraine

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in building quality relations with Ukraine, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

“For many centuries, our peoples have lived in peace, friendship and accord.  Belarus will never say or do things that would put our relations with Ukrainian people on hold. Those far-fetched things, statements about some threats to Ukraine allegedly coming from the territory of Belarus are absolutely groundless. Most likely, their goal is to justify their not very smart steps and actions. This is how I see it,” Vladimir Makei said.

“Once the Belarusian president said that we would come to Ukraine, but not on a tank, but on a tractor,” the minister said. “We want our 1,084 km border to be a border of friendship, peace and accord. We do not want this border to be like a high fence, across which we accuse each other of some wrongdoing. We want these gates to be open to be able to communicate normally with each other, so that nothing darkens our relationship. We stick to this approach,” Vladimir Makei added.
