MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – The first meeting of the Belarus-EU Coordination Group took place in Brussels on 6-7 April in a format of a structural and comprehensive dialogue between Belarus and the European Union, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a briefing on 7 April, BelTA has learned.
Belarus was represented at the event by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna. The EU delegation was led by Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid. The parties discussed the issues related to the state and prospects for the development of Belarus-EU relations, Belarus’ participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative. The talks included the intensification of dialogues in the economic, financial and environmental sectors. The parties also considered the ways to launch new bilateral dialogues on trade, energy, customs, innovations and standardization issues, as well as boost cooperation in modernization, technical assistance, and also human rights.
Alena Kupchyna held a number of working meetings with representatives of the European organizations.
