MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – The first Belarusian-American consultations on international security took place in Washington on 17-18 June, BelTA learned from Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, on 19 June.
The consultations focused on a wide spectrum of matters concerning international security in the global and regional context, including the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, export control, the operation of the Conference on Disarmament, and the liquidation of chemical weapons. Apart from that, the sides talked over Belarus-USA interaction in nuclear and information security and the fight against terrorism.
The Belarusian side was represented by Vladimir Gerasimovich, Head of the International Security and Control over Armaments Office of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, and Pavel Shidlovsky, Charge d’Affaires Ad Interim of Belarus in the USA.
The U.S. side was represented by Simon Limage, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nonproliferation Programs, Kasia Mendelsohn, Deputy Assistant of the Administrator of the Office of Nonproliferation and International Security of the U.S. Department of State, and a number of other officials.
