MINSK, 25 December (BelTA) – When speaking about the deployment of 10 Oreshnik missiles in Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko was referring to the bare minimum required for the country’s defense, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

During the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, the president said that ten Oreshnik missile systems would be deployed in the country. This announcement was taken by some as a jest. “The president wasn’t joking at all. He was absolutely serious,” said Andrei Bogodel. “When he speaks of ten missiles, it means a missile regiment will be deployed on our territory. Accordingly, it’s certainly possible to say that it can operate as part of a separate regiment or we can also call it a brigade, but, as a rule, such systems operate within a division. In other words, it’s likely that in the near future, an entirely new missile division armed with such missile systems will operate in the western strategic direction.”

The expert clarified why only three launchers, which was also mentioned at the Belarusian People’s Congress, will initially be used. “This is only the beginning of how we will operate. It’s not for nothing that we only talked about one line of defense. After all, you understand that a regiment is a completely different unit, one that will carry out assigned missions directly on our territory. And this, accordingly, will be one element of the joint missile grouping of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. And, accordingly, it will be used within a unified system of overall military planning,” Andrei Bogodel emphasized.

He noted that in the event of a serious armed conflict, Belarus would be able to independently repel an enemy attack. “When the head of state spoke about ten such launchers, he was specifically talking about the minimum necessary for our country, which would be located directly on our territory and carry out tasks in the interests of our regional grouping of troops and forces,” the expert concluded.
