European Games opening ceremony to focus on Belarus’ history, culture

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Organizers of the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games will make the focus on the history and culture of Belarus, head of the ceremonies and cultural programs of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) Sergei Khomich told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The colorful show at Dinamo Stadium will include some eight art blocks. Each of them will be devoted to a certain topic, for example legends and the medieval past of Belarus. The show will feature the works of outstanding Belarusian writers Yanka Kupala, Yakub Kolas, Maksim Bogdanovich,Yan Barshchevsky, as well as the activity of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Vseslav of Polotsk, and Francysk Skaryna. The show will demonstrate the glorious pages of Belarusian history. The 2nd European Games opening ceremony for us is a chance to tell the world about the rich and interesting cultural heritage of the country,” said Sergei Khomich.

In his words, an international production team is working on the ceremony. The team has taken a different look at historical events through a contemporary prism. Viewers will be able to see the augmented reality effects using the Opening Ceremony AR Minsk 2019 special app.

The dress rehearsal of the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games will be held at Minsk Dinamo Stadium on 19 June. The European Games opening ceremony will take place on 21 June and will feature Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko and Kazakh pop singer Dimash Kudaibergen.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 15 sports. The 1st European Games took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in June 2015.

Tickets for the European Games are available at www.minsk2019.ticketpro.by, in the box offices of the official ticket operator Ticketpro and in more than 300 sales points in all the oblast centers and big regional centers. Tickets can be bought through a noncash settlement. For this it is necessary to fill in an application, providing a phone number and an e-mail address and submit it to minsk2019@ticketpro.by or by fax 8-017-392-67-70.
