EU-Belarus Partnership Priorities discussion nearly deadlocked, but talks continue

EU-Belarus Partnership Priorities discussion nearly deadlocked, but talks continue

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The discussion of the text of the EU-Belarus Partnership Priorities has reached a deadlock, but talks go on, Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko told reporters on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

“I am not ready to say that this stalemate will not be overcome. After all, we are determined to reach a compromise. As of now, unfortunately, we have made no headway on this document. However, this does not mean that the corresponding talks have been suspended or finished,” Oleg Kravchenko said.

In his words, this matter is always raised during contacts with European partners. “We do not only take note of the difficult situation we are in, but also discuss what we could do about it,” the diplomat said.

The adoption of the EU-Belarus Partnership Priorities is impeded by Lithuania’s position; after all, the document should be approved by all the EU member states. “I do not think that our country can do anything about it. I believe that we have been flexible and constructive enough in our efforts to get this document approved,” he noted.
