Embassy of South Korea promotes all-round cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is eager to continue strengthening the all-round cooperation with the Republic of Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Belarus Yang Jung Mo said during the solemn event at the House of Friendship on 1 February that celebrated the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and South Korea, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat pointed out that since 1992 Belarus and the Republic of Korea have been continuously expanding cooperation in all fields, including politics, science, technology, culture, and sports. “Our countries are in a constant search for new cooperation opportunities,” Yang Jung Mo emphasized.

He noted that “the horizons of the bilateral cooperation significantly broadened” in 2014. The ambassador praised the agreements reached during the visits of South Korean delegations to Belarus. “It is important that Korean companies have made the first investments in the Belarusian economy. Besides, the opening of an office of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) in Minsk and the first center of the King Sejong Institute contributed to the development of closer economic and cultural ties between the two countries,” Yang Jung Mo said.

He assured that in 2015 the embassy will make every effort to promote the cooperation between Belarus and South Korea. For example, the ties will be strengthened by the joint use of Korean and Belarusian advanced information technologies. Besides, the embassy plans to create a legal framework to establish free movement of people between the two states. The possibility of easing visa requirements is currently under consideration.

Yang Jung Mo also pointed out that it is necessary to hold cultural and educational events in order to improve the mutual understanding between the Korean and Belarusian people. For example, in 2015 Belarusians will have many opportunities to learn more about the traditions, art, and cuisine of South Korea.

The ambassador drew attention to the fact that the celebrations at the House of Friendship were attended by a South Korean delegation led by Shin Gye-ryoon, Head of the Association of Friendship with Belarus at the Korean National Assembly. “The visit of the Korean officials to Belarus is aimed at developing the bilateral ties,” Yang Jung Mo noted.

Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov emphasized the importance of developing the all-round cooperation with the Republic of Korea. Attending the meeting also were MPs, cultural figures, members of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and representatives of Belarusian universities.
