Election commissions Belarus, Kyrgyzstan raise cooperation to new level

Election commissions Belarus, Kyrgyzstan raise cooperation to new level

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The election commissions of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are elevating their cooperation to a new level. This is stipulated in a cooperation agreement between the central electoral authorities of the two countries, which was signed in Minsk on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

Igor Karpenko, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, stated that the signing of the agreement opens new horizons for bilateral cooperation and for enhancing the professional work of the commissions.

‘We engage in cooperation within the framework of the CIS Advisory Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies and other international organizations, including the Association of World Election Bodies. However, this bilateral agreement creates additional avenues not only for the exchange of information, experience, and technologies, and for their study and implementation, but also for more intensive consultations and coordination within the international organizations in which we are actively engaged,” Igor Karpenko stated.

Tynchtyk Shainazarov, the head of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Kyrgyzstan, stated that the agreement provides a foundation for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the professional work of electoral commissions.

He noted that Kyrgyzstan will draw on Belarus’ experience in how its Central Election Commission works with youth and the public on educational initiatives and on involving young people in the country's social and political life.

The head of Belarus’ Central Election Commission said he was confident that his Kyrgyz colleagues’ visit to Minsk had been useful, giving them an opportunity to examine the work being carried out in Belarus on legal education for citizens and the training of potential election organizers. “We really have a lot to talk about. I’m confident that today’s signing of the agreement will open up new opportunities for our cooperation,” he said.

Specifically, Igor Karpenko said that there is already an agreement to invite representatives of Kyrgyzstan's Central Election Commission to a forthcoming conference being organized by Belarus' academic community.
