Ecuador’s group of friends act signed in MinskMINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – Ecuador’s group of friends act has been signed in Minsk. The signing ceremony took place in Minsk’s Friendship House on 20 May, BelTA informs.

The document was inked by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to Belarus Carlos Larrea Davila and Minsk Vice Mayor Igor Karpenko. The act was also signed by Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Guryanov as a guest of honor. The group of friends comprised representatives of the Belarusian government bodies, diplomatic corps, scientists and businessmen.

The Ecuador’s Ambassador stressed in his speech that the opening of the diplomatic missions in Minsk and Quito had promoted the development of the Belarusian-Ecuadorian cooperation in various areas. He emphasized the importance of joint projects in industrial development, transport, construction, oil industry, geology, energy, sci-tech sphere, education and healthcare. Carlos Larrea Davila made a point of a fraternal character of the bilateral relations, despite geographical distance, and a huge cooperation potential.

The diplomat also took note of the heroism of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and World War Two, including Belarus’ contribution to the Great Victory over the Nazis.

In turn, Igor Karpenko stressed that the public diplomacy plays an important role in the development of Belarus-Ecuador relations. “I am convinced that together we will be able to continue developing relations based on friendship and understanding,” he said.

The solemn meeting at the Friendship House marked the anniversary of the Battle of Pichincha. The defeat of the Royalist forces loyal to Spain brought about the liberation of Quito, and secured the independence of the Spanish colonial administrative jurisdiction from which the Republic of Ecuador eventually emerged.Ecuador’s group of friends act signed in Minsk
