Eastern Partnership, Visegrad Group to prioritize cross-border, education cooperation

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – The Eastern Partnership and the Visegrad Group have identified cross-border, transport and education cooperation among their priorities, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko said after the meeting of the deputy ministers of foreign affairs of the Visegrad Group and Eastern Partnership participating states in Minsk on 15 March, BelTA has learned.

The deputy minister stressed that the event was held as part of Belarus’ presidency in the CEI and Poland’s presidency in the Visegrad Group. He emphasized the importance of the fact that Belarus hosted and co-organized the meeting which highlighted the themes important for the member states. “This proves that the countries have common interests and intend to develop friendly relations in the current complex times,” said Oleg Kravchenko.

In his words, the meeting discussed issues of the regional and European agenda, including the promotion of cross-border transport and education cooperation at the local and regional levels. The parties suggested a number of initiatives for joint implementation by the Eastern Partnership and the Visegrad Group.

Oleg Kravchenko also expressed hope that the meeting would serve the achievement of common goals in the region.

The Minsk meeting took place ahead of the forthcoming meeting of the minister of foreign affairs of the Eastern Partnership and the Visegrad Group states, which is due in Warsaw in April 2017. The Eastern Partnership summit will be held in Brussels in November.
