Dmitry Mezentsev appointed Russian ambassador to Belarus

MINSK, 1 May (BelTA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to appoint Dmitry Mezentsev Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus, BelTA learned from the website of the Russian head of state.

Vladimir Putin also signed a decree to relieve Mikhail Babich of the duties of the Russian ambassador to Belarus and also the special presidential envoy for promoting trade and economic cooperation with Belarus.

Before the new appointment Dmitry Mezentsev was a senator to the Federal Assembly of Russia from Sakhalin Oblast and served as Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
