MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – In line with the Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 70 as of 4 February 2020, Belarusian First Deputy Premier Dmitry Krutoi has been authorized to sign the oil agreement with Kazakhstan. The resolution was officially posted on the National Legal Internet Portal on 6 February, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Krutoi was authorized to hold talks on the Belarus-Kazakhstan intergovernmental draft agreement on supplies of oil and petroleum products to Belarus. Some minor amendments can be introduced to the agreement if necessary. The first deputy premier will also sign the oil agreement provided the parties come to terms.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree to authorize the government to conduct negotiations with Kazakhstan on trade and economic cooperation in the area of delivery of oil and petroleum products to Belarus. Previously Aleksandr Lukashenko repeatedly mentioned Kazakhstan as one of the countries Belarus may potentially import oil from. The matter was discussed among other things during the official visit of the Belarusian head of state to Kazakhstan in October 2019.

On 5 February Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko informed that Belarus is interested in duty-free deliveries of oil from Kazakhstan. The official said that the agreement on delivering Kazakh oil and petroleum products to Belarus is nearly ready, primarily administrative procedures are left to be addressed.
