Details of meeting on Belarus’ international relations revealed

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) - We have defined our position regarding our future engagement with partners, Chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus Ivan Tertel told the media following a meeting with the head of state to discuss the global situation and relations with the United States, BelTA has learned.

"At the meeting, the position of the Republic of Belarus was specified both regarding the negotiation track with the U.S. side and regarding the relations with our key neighbors and partners, including France and Germany. A position has been formulated. It respects the interests of our neighbors and our partners focusing on our national interests, and ensuring that our partners also take our national interests into account. The approach is aimed at ensuring that our relations serve not confrontation, but rather our people and the economic, social, familial, and other ties. In this regard, the head of state set the corresponding tasks,” Ivan Tertel noted.

The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin, State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi and Prosecutor General Andrei Shved.

“The discussion was very intense at times because we hold different opinions. The meeting was attended by top-ranking officials who, on the instruction of the head of state, are each responsible for developing relations in their respective areas. We did not always agree with each other. Ultimately, a balance of these interests has been struck, and from this position we will communicate with our partners,” Ivan Tertel said.
