Dapkiunas notes importance of UNICEF efforts in medium-income countries

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) - Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Andrei Dapkiunas stressed the importance of the UNICEF’s work in middle-income countries, sustainable development of which is largely dependent on the world economy. The Belarusian representative in the UN made the statement as he spoke at the annual session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which in underway at the UN headquarters in New York on 14-17 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Andrei Dapkiunas, head of the Belarusian delegation, took part in the discussion of the report by UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake on the results of the Fund’s activities. “The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN stressed that all children in all countries should have a chance of childhood based on all-round development and dignity, regardless of geographical location or level of income of their country of residence. This thesis was fully supported by UNICEF’s Executive Director,” the press service informed.

The head of the Belarusian Mission to the UN praised UNICEF’s achievements in elimination of violence against children. He also urged the Fund to support more actively the family and family values, which is the key to solving the problem.

Andrei Dapkiunas thanked UNICEF for assisting Belarus in full prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis.
