GRODNO, 21 February (BelTA) - The Czech Republic is interested in developing cooperation with Belarusian regions in agriculture, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Belarus Tomas Pernicky said as he met with Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov, BelTA has learned.

The ambassador noted that the two countries need to step up economic cooperation. Regions can serve as drivers of growth here. “We have the potential. It is far from being exhausted. For example, there is vibrant interaction between Minsk oblast and Vysocina Region. However, we need to forge deeper cooperation between Grodno Oblast and Central Bohemian Region. The relevant agreement has already been signed,” said Tomas Pernicky said. According to him, areas of cooperation are many. Several projects with the participation of Czech companies have been implemented in Belarus. Grodno Oblast is interesting to Czech business as one of agriculture leaders in Belarus. Possible areas of cooperation include milk processing, cheese production.

This year, the Czech Embassy has planned several reciprocal business visits between the two countries to discuss cooperation in brewing (small craft breweries), production and processing of fish, and water clean-up projects.

During the meeting the parties also talked over the reconstruction of the palace and park complex in Svyatsk, Grodno District. The project involves setting up a restaurant and a small brewing company. The Czech experience in this field could be useful.

Vladimir Kravtsov stressed that Grodno Oblast is open to cooperation, exchange of proposals, projects in various fields.
