Cuba seen as example of courage, perseverance for Belarus

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) - The House of Representatives hosted a meeting of the working group on cooperation with the Parliament of Cuba and Cuban Ambassador to Belarus Juan Valdés Figueroa, BelTA has learned.

The agenda included the issues regarding inter-parliamentary cooperation, support in the international arena, intensification of economic cooperation, and joint actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"Today, our most important task is to express solidarity with Cuba. This is a heroic people, a heroic country that has been withstanding all sorts of sanctions and pressure from the United States for more than 60 years while maintaining its independence. For us, this is an example of perseverance and courage,” said Sergei Klishevich, the head of the working group, a member of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives. “It is important to highlight a medical topic. One of the world’s effective vaccines has been developed in Cuba. Today it is actively used in Latin America, which, of course, the United States is working actively against. The most important thing for us is to once again compare notes, including in terms of parliamentary cooperation, to consider political support for each other, including in the international arena."

The MP noted that Belarus has already gained some experience in combating various hybrid warfare technologies. "I must say that Cuba has been facing it for more than a dozen years. The most interesting thing is that the playbook is the same everywhere. They apply the same technologies: charts, social media. Of course, we discussed these issues today," he stressed. “I am sure that the experience of Belarus and Cuba will enable us to bolster our states and make them even stronger. All those who are trying to destroy them today will get an appropriate response from our countries."

The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the meeting in the Parliament. "I want to express our solidarity with Belarus on all issues," he added. “Cuba will open its borders on 15 November and will resume most of its economic and social activities. Already 90% of our population has been vaccinated with the Cuban vaccine. This is very important for us, because Cuba is a tourist country. This, of course, will strengthen relations with other countries, including Belarus, with which we have long-standing ties and cooperation. 15 November will mark a new stage in cooperation between Cuba and Belarus.”
