Cooperation with Belarus described as priority for Arkhangelsk Oblast of Russia

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) - Cooperation with Belarus is one of the priority areas in the development of international relations for Arkhangelsk Oblast, Governor of Russia’s Arkhangelsk Oblast Alexander Tsybulsky said during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 24 august, BelTA has learned.

“Cooperation with Belarus remains one of the priority, strategic, and important areas in the development of our international ties. We are consistently expanding interaction across all key areas. Belarus steadily remains among the top five trading and economic partners of our region. I completely concur with you that the potential for developing mutual trade has not yet been fully utilized,” the governor said.

According to him, cooperation is also developing at the level of municipalities and districts in Belarus.

A cooperation agreement with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is in the pipeline. In this regard, a promising area of collaboration is emerging. Belarusian expertise in peat processing is in high demand in Arkhangelsk Oblast. “There is growing global demand for peat. It is very important here that we do not simply export raw materials, but rather process them into finished products so that the bulk of the added value stays at our enterprises,” Alexander Tsybulsky said.

There is strong demand for Belarusian food products in Arkhangelsk Oblast. Recently, the tenth Belaruskaya Vioska (Belarusian Village) store opened in Arkhangelsk. There’s a proposed to open similar stores in other cities of the region as well. “We opened it in a good location, right in the city center. The first week of trading shows that the demand and interest in Belarusian products among the city’s residents is enormous. They practically bought out the entire warehouse, everything that had been brought in,” the governor reported.
