Contact group on Ukraine to reconvene in Minsk on 18 January

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The first session of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine’s east in 2018 is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 18 January, BelTA learned from the OSCE’s special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik.

The meeting of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine in Minsk on 20 December focused on security matters, the observance of the ceasefire regime, and the exchange of prisoners of war. The relevant statement was made.

Participants of the subgroup on economic affairs continued discussing water supply and ways to repay debts to former employees of Ukrainian Railways in several districts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast. The subgroup on political affairs continued discussing the modality of the Steinmeier formula and its future implementation. The subgroup on humanitarian affairs did not meet on 20 December because its participants had held two video conferences the week before to discuss important things.

On behalf of the trilateral contact group and himself personally Martin Sajdik thanked Belarus, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei for comprehensive assistance and excellent working conditions in Minsk. The diplomat thanked all the parties involved in negotiations of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine in Minsk as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, which provide aid to the civilian population in the conflict zone.
