MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) – Consultations on Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization took place in Geneva on 28 October, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told BelTA.
Held in the headquarters of the World Trade Organization, the consultations involved Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov, chairman of the WTO’s working group on Belarus’ accession Mehmet Haluk Ilicak, and top officials of the WTO secretariat, who handle the accession of new members to the WTO. The consultations focused on the current situation regarding Belarus’ accession to the WTO, including taking into account prospects of Eurasian integration development.
Partners from the WTO mentioned the importance of the documents recently submitted by Belarus and drew attention to the formation of conditions conducive to more vigorous negotiations taking into account a number of factors. The sides reached understanding regarding further steps that have to be made to secure progress in the negotiations. The Belarusian side confirmed the serious interest and readiness to step up efforts to accelerate Belarus’ accession to the WTO.
