CIS plenipotentiaries to meet in Minsk 27 January

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - The CIS Plenipotentiaries Council will hold its first meeting of 2015 in the Belarusian capital on 27 January, BelTA learnt from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Partaking in the meeting will be Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei and Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

The CIS Plenipotentiaries Council will be headed by permanent representative of Kazakhstan in the CIS Ergali Bulegenov.

The participants of the meeting are expected to approve the Council’s action plan for 2015. The draft plan envisages the consideration of the agendas of the meetings of the CIS supreme bodies as well as their results, the implementation of the documents adopted in the CIS, the analysis of the activity of the sectoral cooperation bodies. Special attention will be paid to the preparations to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The participants of the meeting will also consider the progress made in the implementation of the instructions given by the CIS Heads of State Council, the CIS Heads of Government Council and the CIS Foreign Ministers Council to the CIS bodies in 2011-2013. Over the period the CIS Heads of State Council held four meetings, the CIS Heads of Government Council held six meetings and the CIS Foreign Ministers Council held six meetings. There were adopted 71 documents which contained 83 instructions to the CIS bodies, there were developed measures on their implementation, with the progress considered at the meetings of these bodies.

Besides, the CIS plenipotentiaries will coordinate the candidacy for the head of the CIS observation mission for the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan that are due on 1 March 2015.
