CIS MPs back Belarus on economic development prospects

CIS MPs back Belarus on economic development prospects

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – During the press conference held in the wake of the autumn session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA) in Saint Petersburg Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich thanked parliamentarians for supporting Belarus’ proposals concerning the development of the CIS’ economic development prospects, the press service of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament told BelTA.

Mikhail Myasnikovich thanked colleagues for supporting the proposals put forward by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. During the session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich presented arguments to prove it is necessary to work out CIS economic development prospects.

CIS IPA events are also significant because they have future in mind, added Mikhail Myasnikovich. The documents adopted by the session participants are designed to develop the Commonwealth of Independent States, including by means of parliamentary instruments. Mikhail Myasnikovich mentioned the importance of model laws, for instance, the model law on tourism. He also pointed out that 80% of the model laws are incorporated into the national legislations one way or another or are used to develop national legislation.

Speaking about the effectiveness of formation of common educational space in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Mikhail Myasnikovich stated that a lot had been done in this area: the regulations are harmonized and unified rather seriously. “The laws of the CIS states offer the same education terms, including post-graduate education, to the majority of partners in the Commonwealth. However, despite what has been done a lot has yet to be done,” he said. Mikhail Myasnikovich reminded that vigorous work on the draft renewed Education Code is in progress in Belarus. It is supposed to implement the world’s best practices, including CIS ones.

BelTA quoted Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko as saying at the CIS summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 28 September that the CIS states lack a common vision and a general plan for developing the Commonwealth of Independent States. The theoretical model has yet to be completed. A practical strategy for the economic integration of the CIS states is not available. Alexander Lukashenko said back then: “As part of the work to adapt the CIS to modern reality we’ve started revising the concept of further development of the Commonwealth of Independent States. I suggest the governments should update the economic block of the document. It can become the ideological foundation for more fully using the R&D and investment potential within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States. It would be wise to link it with the development of the CIS economic development strategy for the period after 2020.” According to Alexander Lukashenko, the concept and the strategy should stipulate modern reference points and determine common economic growth points. Alexander Lukashenko added that the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly should also get involved in this work.
