CIS Heads of Government Council to consider 20 issues in Astana

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – The agenda of the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting, which is due in Astana on 29 May, will include 20 issues, Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told media on 19 March, BelTA has learned.

“The agenda of the forthcoming meeting will comprise 20 issues. A total of 23 documents will be adopted. The issues are very important for the further economic cooperation of our countries. The CIS action plan on the financial and economic situation is the number one document,” Sergei Lebedev said.

In his words, after discussing the economic situation in the CIS the heads of government decided to develop the relevant action plan. The plan was developed by the CIS Executive Committee and experts and approved by the CIS Economic Council. The document will be submitted for signing to the heads of government. “The plan comprises 14 points defining the financial and economic cooperation in the CIS,” the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee said.

Besides, the agenda of the meeting will include the issues related to strengthening cooperation in innovations, forestry and timber industry, interregional and border cooperation. A number of items on the agenda comprise documents regulating cooperation in humanitarian activities (culture, education, sport, vocational training and enhancement of qualifications).

The CIS Heads of Government will also consider security issues, including documents related to the development of the radiation, chemical and biological security systems, registration of stateless citizens of third countries coming to the CIS.

Apart from that, the meeting will look into the documents to give the status of a basic organization to a number of educational establishments, financial and personnel matters.

On 19 March Sergei Lebedev took part in a joint meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council and the Commission for Economic Matters at the CIS Economic Council.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the joint meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council and the Commission for Economic Matters also considered the progress made in the implementation of the CIS cooperation strategy in building up and developing the information society and an action plan on its implementation through 2015. The programs added a new impetus to wider integration cooperation in the use of information and communication technologies. “The implementation of joint events within the strategy and its action plan helps coordinate efforts in the use of new technologies, elaborate coordinated views on approaches and methods of molding the information and communication infrastructure, bring together the positions on the legal, normative and technical regulation of ICT, share best practices in IT penetration,” the press service said.

The participants of the joint meeting also discussed the results of the activity of the CIS bodies of sectoral cooperation last year. A total of 37 out of 69 of them operate in the economic sector.
