CIS heads of government adopt package of documents on cooperation

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) -  A set of documents on cooperation was adopted at the video conference of the CIS Heads of Government Council on 29 May, BelTA has learned.

One of the key documents submitted to the CIS Heads of Government Council was the draft CIS Economic Development Strategy for the period until 2030. The document reflects the agreed approaches of the CIS countries to the goals, main tasks, areas of cooperation and mechanisms of interstate cooperation in the economic sector. According to Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, there was a proposal to approve the document as a whole and at the same time to instruct the CIS Executive Committee together with the states to finalize the draft strategy taking into account new circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The CIS Executive Committee has actively consulted with representatives of states on this issue, suggesting possible solutions. The majority is in favor of adopting the strategy as approved by the CIS Economic Council. As for new developments in our economic interaction as a result of the pandemic, we will certainly reflect them in the strategy plan of action. We are already working on this plan and will present it at the next meeting of the Heads of Government Council,” he said. At the end of the meeting, the strategy was approved.

The heads of government adopted an agreement on a joint (united) communication system of the Armed Forces of the CIS member states, as well as on the establishment and operation of the CIS Network University. The heads of government approved the strategies of cooperation of the CIS member states in the youth affairs in tourism, physical education and sports for 2021-2030, as well as the main measures of cooperation of the CIS countries in culture for 2021-2025.

The CIS energy resources production and consumption forecast through 2030 was approved. The council also approved priority areas of cooperation in transport through 2030 and the action plan for the Year of Architecture and Urban Planning in the CIS in 2021.
