LIANYUNGANG, 7 May (BelTA) – The Chinese sea port city of Lianyungang is ready to establish twin city relations with the Belarusian city of Zhlobin, representatives of the Lianyungang city administration told BelTA.
The interest in the industrial potential of the Belarusian city and the desire to establish twin city relations have been fuelled by the work of the Consulate General of Belarus in Shanghai that puts a lot of effort into getting Belarusian and Chinese cities twinned.
A Zhlobin delegation has been invited to visit Lianyungang in September when the second China (Lianyungang) Silk Road International Logistics Expo will be held there. In turn, representatives of the Chinese side intend to visit Zhlobin this year.
Lianyungang is one of the largest sea ports of China. The city is now particularly important due to its inclusion in the projects Economic Belt of the Silk Road and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The city is located at a junction of shipping routes and railways. Over 200 million tonnes of cargoes to and from China passes through the city every year. The port is believed to offer the most convenient access to the markets of Central Asia for cargoes from Japan and Korea. Belarus will be able to use its advantages as part of the new Silk Road. Lianyungang is located on the Yellow Sea coast and represents the eastern fort of the new Asian-European transcontinental bridge.
