China viewed as strategic direction of Belarus’ foreign policy

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksandr Guryanov took part in the online forum “Alignment of the Eurasian Economic Union and China’s Belt and Road Initiative” on 27 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The forum is held on the initiative of the Eurasian Economic Commission, with the support of all EAEU member states. In his speech, Aleksandr Guryanov stressed that the development of relations with China is a strategic direction of Belarus’ foreign policy, and full participation in the implementation of China’s Belt and Road initiative will make the economies of partner countries more resistant to global challenges.

Favorable conditions for intensive development of cooperation are created by the agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and the People's Republic of China. The agreement came into force a year ago. For the effective implementation of the agreement, a joint commission has been established to facilitate mutual trade and develop joint economic projects.

The Belt and Road initiative means not only cargo transportation and logistics infrastructure. It is also about the development of high-tech industries, the building of transnational production chains. It was suggested to use the Eurasian center for the production of new high-tech goods and services in order to unlock the potential of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone,” the ministry said.

Aleksandr Guryanov stressed that the participation of financial institutions of the Eurasian Economic Union and the People's Republic of China - Eurasian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank - in co-financing of joint projects can significantly enhance the work on alignment and complementarity of integration processes in Eurasia.
