China opposes external forces' interference in Belarus’ internal affairs

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - China opposes the interference of external forces in the internal affairs of Belarus and, as always, supports Belarus on its path of development in line with its own national specifics, reads a statement of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the telephone conversation between the leaders of Belarus and China, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping stressed that the current international and regional situation is complex and in flux. China and Belarus effectively cooperate in multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and firmly support each other in safeguarding their core interests, reflecting the strategic value of China-Belarus cooperation. "In the new situation, the two countries must continue to work closely together, practice a genuine multi-faceted approach, support the international system with the UN at its core and the international order based on international law, and ensure international law and justice. China opposes the interference of external forces in the internal affairs of Belarus and, as always, supports Belarus on its path of development in lien with its national specifics," the statement reads.

It also noted that both countries should uphold the common values of all mankind, encourage the international community to form a correct view of democracy and human rights and contribute to the Global Development Initiative and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Xi Jinping stressed that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belarus. Over the past 30 years, China and Belarus have achieved fruitful results in the development of bilateral relations. The countries have become comprehensive strategic partners. Cooperation between the two sides as part of the Belt and Road initiative has been steadily developing, and the volume of bilateral trade has increased 50 times in 30 years. A number of large-scale projects have been launched, including the China-Belarus Industrial Park and the China-EU rail service. Exchanges in science and technology, education, culture, tourism, medical care and other areas have become deeper, creating a model for friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries.

China is ready to cooperate with Belarus in order to turn the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations into a starting point for the further strengthening of the political trust of the two countries, deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation, and helping the comprehensive strategic partnership achieve new results.

The two countries should expand the scope of bilateral trade and advance cooperation in various fields.
