Chairman of Standing Committee of China’s NPC to visit Belarus 16 April

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), will visit Belarus on 16 April, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the opening of the second session of the Council of the Republic on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the session will discuss ways to step up the cooperation between Belarus and China. “We should maintain the momentum in our relations, our strategic partnership with China in every way we can,” he emphasized.

The Belarusian parliament always pays much attention to bolstering its international activity. The Council of the Republic, together with stakeholders, is actively preparing for the Fourth Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions to be held in Moscow on 29 and 30 June. The forum will highlight vectors of integration-driven development of regions of Belarus and Russia in the field of innovations and information technologies. “This is especially relevant for us in the context of the Year of Science and the long-term cooperation with our strategic partner, the Russian Federation,” Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.

In 2017, Belarus assumed presidency of the Central European Initiative (CEI) for the first time. Events will be held to develop the parliamentary dimension of the CEI. These include the meeting of the CEI Parliamentary Committee that will discuss the intellectualization of economy in the CEI region on 30 May, and the annual session of the CEI Parliamentary Assembly in autumn. Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that Minsk will host the 26th Summer Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from 5 to 9 July.
