Call on CIS countries to stand together against external pressure

Call on CIS countries to stand together against external pressure

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – The CIS member states should join efforts to resist external political and economic pressure, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told journalists following the session of the CIS Heads of Government Council on 28 May, BelTA has learned.

“The topic of political and economic pressure was brought up many times during the session. Unfortunately, our countries are facing more pressure. The international checks and balances system has become unbalanced. International institutions that are meant to act as stabilizers are ineffective. One country after another comes under such pressure. At present, this is a burning issue for Belarus, but any country can find itself in such a situation. In view of our readiness for cooperation, in light of the strategic documents providing for mutual support and cooperation, we hope that the CIS member states will join efforts to resist external political and economic pressure,” Roman Golovchenko said.

The CIS countries actively exchange information and support each other in this field, Roman Golovchenko noted. “It is important that Belarus has been able to inform its partners about the current situation regarding the pressure on our country at an in-person meeting,” he stressed.

Economic and political pressure of the West prompts the CIS member states to intensify cooperation, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev noted. “We can deal with economic problems in the wake of sanctions only through increased cooperation with each other. All the heads of the CIS delegations have stressed this today. We will solve these problems by stepping up cooperation. We are unanimous on this point,” he said.
