MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Belarusian State University (BSU) and China’s Tsinghua University have signed a memorandum of understanding. The document was signed by rectors Andrei Korol and Qiu Yong. The signing ceremony was held online, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.

The signing of the document was preceded by two years of interaction between the universities to identify key partnership areas. For this purpose, in 2019 mutual visits were paid to the universities to assess the scientific and educational activities of the institutions. In April 2021 rector Andrei Korol took part in the Global Forum of University Presidents 2021 (GFUP 2021) themed Innovate for the Future: Vision and New Mission of Universities, timed to mark the 110th anniversary of Tsinghua University.

The signed memorandum regulates Belarusian-Chinese cooperation in education and science. It stipulates exchange of students, invitation of teachers and scientists, implementation of joint research and educational projects, exchange of publications, information, educational materials, organization of scientific, educational and cultural events.

Tsinghua University is one of the leading universities in China and is one of the nine elite Chinese universities - the C9 League. Tsinghua University is ranked 15th in the QS rankings. Its alumni include many famous scientists, artists, and politicians. Among them are the two most recent presidents of China - Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping.

Tsinghua University was founded in 1911. It is located in the northwest of Beijing, in the Haidian student district of Beijing. It got its present name in 1914. Today about 53,000 students study in Tsinghua University, more than 3,200 of them are foreigners. The educational process is provided by more than 3,600 professors. The university includes 21 institutes and 59 faculties.
