Belarusian State University to open Uzbek language, culture center

MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – A center of the Uzbek language and the culture of Uzbekistan will be set up at Belarusian State University (BSU), BelTA learned from the BSU press service.

The center will open in line with the roadmap signed by the BSU and the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navo'i. The signing ceremony was held during the visit of the BSU delegation led by BSU Rector Andrei Korol to Uzbekistan.

The center will aim to strengthen educational and cultural ties between the two countries and facilitate the studies of the language, history, and ethnic groups of Uzbekistan. The center is set to open in December 2021.

The roadmap lays down the program of cooperation between the universities within the framework of the cooperation agreement, which entered into force in 2021, and provides for organization of academic exchanges, conferences, seminars, symposiums, carrying out joint projects, publications, and research as well as exchanging materials and literature on research and methodology.

During the visit, rectors of the two universities Andrei Korol and Shuhrat Sirojiddinov held talks. They spoke at length about the implementation of the agreements and looked into new areas of cooperation in science and education.

The program of the official visit of the BSU delegation to Uzbekistan with the aim to advance cooperation between universities includes a lot of meetings with top officials of educational institutions. The BSU delegation held talks with Rector of the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies Gulchekhra Rikhsieva. The parties discussed prospects for expanding joint educational programs for specialist training. The BSU and the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies have run the joint program in Oriental (Chinese) philology since 2019. The BSU delegation will also visit the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, the Tashkent State University of Law, and Samarkand State University.
