Belarusian senators approve draft law on publishing activity

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The Council of the Republic approved the draft law on the Publishing Business in the Republic of Belarus at the final meeting of its first session on 20 December, BelTA has learnt.

Presenting the document to the senators, First Deputy Information Minister Lilia Ananich noted: “It is the first document of the kind in the publishing industry of Belarus. There is no specially designed law to regulate the publishing industry in the country. The bill will provide for the fundamentals of the publishing business and will allow focusing the state policy on the priorities of the area.” Chairperson of the Council of the Republic’s permanent commission for regional policy and local government Svetlana Gerasimovich was co-rapporteur on the draft law.

According to the bill, the current mechanism of licensing the publishing activity will be replaced by state registration. There will be no need to extend such a license. The data on publishers, producers and distributors of printed products will be contained in one register.
