MOSCOW, 6 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have completed forming the united air defense system in the Eastern Europe collective security region. The information was released by Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces Pavel Kurachenko after the session of the Air Defense Coordinating Committee under the CIS Defense Ministers Council in Tver, Russia on 6 April, BelTA has learned.
According to the source, Belarus and Russia have finished the practical implementation of the relevant agreement. Future efforts will be primarily focused on joint air defense duties and joint combat training exercises.
The Belarus-Russia agreement on the joint protection of the external air border of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and on the establishment of the united regional air defense system was signed and ratified in 2009.
Major-General Oleg Dvigalev, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Belarusian army, has been appointed commander of the united regional air defense system.
