Belarusian, Russian investigation committees discuss cooperation in crime control

MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – A working meeting with Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Aleksandr Bastrykin took place at premises of the Investigative Committee of Belarus, representatives of the Investigative Committee told BelTA.

As he welcomed Russian colleagues, First Deputy Chairman of Belarus’ Investigative Committee Oleg Shandarovich mentioned the trustful and mutually beneficial nature of the partnership between the two agencies.

The meeting focused on matters concerning the investigation of various kinds of crimes, particularly extremism crimes and crimes in the sphere of high technologies. Protection of rights and legal interests of crime victims from criminal infringements was also mentioned.

Due to a considerable increase in cybercrimes in Belarus the Belarusian side expressed interest in getting familiar with the operation of Russia’s Investigative Committee’s recently established division in charge of investigating cybercrimes and high-tech crimes.

The sides agreed to share scientific, instructional, and other materials concerning peculiarities of pretrialBB criminal proceedings on extremism-related criminal cases. The sides also came to terms on studying the positive experience and practice of investigating crimes in the virtual space.

During the meeting the sides also discussed prospects of future cooperation within the framework of existing interstate agreements on crime control and the interagency agreements that have been signed.
